Today we harvested the seeds of the sunflower Scout grew. This was our first summer to intentionally grow edibles together ( we always have volunteer tomato plants pop up). We also harvested the pumpkin she grew, though have not yet decided its fate. The peas we planted met an unfortunate fate when we were in Hawaii, and the tomatoes are just starting to get some ripe ones. It is so crucial to teach children the fundamentals of life. Survival, growth, reproduction, nature, nurture, natural selection, and so many more lessons can be learned and stem from the simple act of planting and taking care of a garden.
