The Channel Islands National Park is a very fun place for a little get a way. We have been to Santa Cruz Island twice before, but this time opted for the outer island of Santa Rosa. It involves an early morning drive to Ventura harbor, a 3-4 hr boat (including a stop at Santa Cruz Island along the way) a 45 minute hike to the camp ground. People said we were crazy, but we are use to that. Cattle Ranchers lived on the island until 5 years ago, so it is a fairly new park. This along with the boat ride keeps the crowds at bay. It is so nice to be on an island in Southern California and see wild foxes, beautiful beaches, sea life, and have it mostly to yourself.
