Rock Mountain Preserve is an off the beaten path trail head in Fallbrook. The trail itself is not the most well maintained with deep rivets in parts, and a few sandy/slippery areas as well as some graffiti. Regardless it turned out to be a great place for a family hike. 5 year old Scout did the entire trail by herself while Jeremy and I carried the 2yr old and the baby.  It also has a vertical rock face popular with climbers, but I do not yet know much about that area.

Pros:

  • a couple old abandoned cars along the path gave the kids a fun break and something to look forward to on the way down.
  • Lots of rocks and boulders to climb- fun for everyone.
  • excellent view at the top of mountains and ocean.
  • quick, short

cons:

  • graffiti
  • rough patches
